Carson Wentz's exit led to Hurts getting the starting job in 2021. to give Hurts a No. 1 target, and Devonta Smith entering Year 2 should also provide for a boost for an offense that was pretty bland but also effective with Hurts last season.But, coach Nick Sirianni inheriting Hurts and a somewhat toned-down offense in first full season at the helm means he'll have to take another step forward. The bad news is that his new contract painted him in a somewhat le s-than-glamorous light.Much was in the pact that was added and subsequently removed this past offseason. So much was made of it that Murray had to call an impromptu pre s conference to defend his honor.Murray's point was clear: He wouldn't have gotten to where he was in the Steve McNair Jersey league if he wasn't a studious and apt player. He already knocked off Sam Darnold from the starting gig (a pretty easy feat, all things told), but now Mayfield has to prove he can stay healthy and start at a high-end level to set himself up for a QB market that'll be pretty thin in 2023Mayfield has shown the ability to be an above-average quarterback in the NFL. What he has to prove this year is his ability to stay healthy and to lead an offense, something he hasn't done since 2020, though it feels significantly longer than that thanks to his 2021 season.While there were some rumblings about Mayfield's maturity in Cleveland, it's clear that the Panthers felt confident Dillon Radunz Jersey in the player and the person to take a swing for at least a year. Well, several.Lawrence had a largely forgettable rookie campaign. His 3.7 turnover-worthy play percentage (per PFF) was tied for seventh worst in the league last year, and the third worst mark among rookies. His 17 interceptions were tied for most in the league, alongside Matthew Stafford.It speaks to the labels "generational," "one-of-a-kind" and "can't-mi s" that are thrown around a lot for a number of pa sers. Lawrence, deservedly or not, was put in the same cla s as Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning and John Elway often, but didn't show a whole lot of anything his rookie season.At times he looked the part, but oftentimes throughout the season, he did not. That was , Bruce Matthews Jersey a lack of quality skill position players and, well, just being a rookie.The situation around Lawrence has (seemingly) improved with the addition of Doug Pederson at head coach and some gaudy offseason moves highlighted by the signing of Christian Kirk. There's still a lot of work to be done, but Lawrence must build on what little he produced in 2021. He won't be going anywhere next season, but the excuses for the "generational" pa ser will thin out quick.
