As a civil engineer, you must have at least a bachelor's degree. While some employers may require a master's or PhD, other organizations may not. You will also need to have an Engineering Fundamentals exam. Some companies also require that you obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) license. After passing the exam, you must complete on-the-job training and take the Principles and Practice of Engineering Exam. Once you have passed the exam, you will have the opportunity to advance and gain greater independence.
